Stimulating Regeneration in Chronic conditions.

Much of our previous work has focused on stimulating regeneration following acute retinal injury. However, most neurodegenerative diseases develop gradually, with persistent low-grade inflammation and progressive neuronal loss. We are now asking whether glia can be reprogrammed into new neurons in these chronic disease environments, and how the signals that regulate regeneration differ from those triggered by acute injury.
